Decks and docks we tear out

In South Florida, wood decks take a beating from sun, rain and salt air. Boards cup and split, screws back out, and soft spots show up underfoot. When a deck is past saving, Rapid Haul takes it apart and hauls every piece away so your builder can start fresh or you can get the yard back.

Dany's crew handles:

  • Backyard wood and composite decks, attached or freestanding
  • Dock decking: the boards and framing on top of the dock
  • Canal-side and waterfront decks
  • Railings, stairs, benches and built-in planters
  • Low platform decks and old walkways
  • Pool-side wood decking (concrete pool decks are on the pool page)

Deck removal pricing, and what moves it

Deck demo starts at $550. That covers tear-out, carrying everything to the truck, hauling and disposal in one flat number. Send Dany photos of the deck from a couple of angles, plus a shot of the path from the deck to the street.

Size is only part of it. Composite boards are heavier than wood. Decks screwed into every joist take longer to break down than nailed ones. Raised decks with tall posts and stairs add work. The biggest factor on waterfront jobs is the carry: if every board has to go around the house and down a long side yard, that shows up in the price. You get the full number before the crew comes out.

Jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit to hold the date, with the balance due at the end.

Dock and waterfront jobs

Dock decking tear-outs are a regular job for Dany, and you can see a few on his social pages. On a dock, the crew removes the walking surface and the framing that sits on top. Seawalls are not part of a Rapid Haul job, and pilings are settled with Dany before the job is priced. That work belongs to a marine builder.

Waterfront yards are often tight, with landscaping, pavers and pool equipment between the dock and the street. The crew carries boards out by hand and keeps nails and screws off the lawn. If your HOA or condo association has rules on work hours or where a truck can park, send them over before the date.

What stays your builder's job

Rapid Haul does non-structural tear-out. If a deck is tied into the house in a way that holds up a roof or porch cover, that part stays until your builder says how it comes out. Concrete footings under the posts are priced on their own once Dany sees them.

The general contractor or the property owner pulls any permit the project needs. If there is lighting or an outlet on the deck, have an electrician disconnect it before the crew starts.

Before the crew shows up

A little prep keeps a deck job quick. Move grills, furniture, planters and anything stored under the deck. If pets use the yard, keep them inside for the day, because loose boards and fasteners are part of the job until the final sweep. Unlock gates and tell Dany about anything fragile along the carry path, like sprinkler heads, low lights or a pool screen.

If the deck is coming out so a new one can go in, tell Dany when your builder plans to start. The crew can time the tear-out so the space is clear and swept right before the new work begins, instead of sitting bare through a rainy week. If you just want the yard back, that works too: the ground is left raked and clean, ready for sod, pavers or nothing at all.

Customer notes from outdoor jobs

Ezra V. said the crew left "the entire area clean and ready to use" after a demolition job. Ashton J. noticed the small stuff, like "sweeping up every piece of dirt on the job site." On a deck, that means a last pass for screws and nails so nobody steps on one later.

How the job runs, step by step

  1. Weathered wood deck behind a house before removal

    Step 1

Walk the deck and the carry path

The crew checks how the deck is fastened, what is attached to the house, and the route boards will take to the truck.

  2. Crew prying up deck boards with the framing exposed underneath

    Step 2

    Strip boards, rails and framing

Railings and stairs come off first, then the boards, then joists and beams, cut down to sizes that carry easily.

  3. Stack of torn-out deck lumber ready to be loaded

    Step 3

Carry out and haul to disposal

Lumber and hardware are stacked, carried out and loaded, then hauled away the same day.

  4. Bare ground where a deck stood, cleared and raked after removal

    Step 4

    Rake for nails and screws

The crew sweeps and rakes the area where the deck stood, picking up loose fasteners and splinters.

Deck Demolition: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

How much does deck removal cost?

Deck demo starts at $550, flat and all-in. Bigger, raised or composite decks cost more. Text photos to (754) 249-1015 for a firm price.

Can you remove the decking on my dock?

Yes. Rapid Haul tears out dock decking and the framing on top. Pilings, seawalls and anything in the water are left for a marine builder.

Can I remove a deck myself?

Plenty of people do. The hard parts are the time, the fasteners and getting rid of the wood. If you would rather not, Dany handles the tear-out and the hauling in one visit.

Do I need a permit to remove my deck?

Check with your city or county building department. If one is needed, the property owner or the general contractor pulls it. Rapid Haul does not pull permits.

Do you haul away the old wood?

Every board, joist, screw and nail leaves with the crew. Hauling and disposal are part of the flat price, so there is nothing left for curbside pickup.

When do I pay?

Jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit to hold the date. Smaller deck jobs are quoted the same flat way, with no surprise charges.
