01How county bulky pickup works in Princeton
Princeton is unincorporated, so Miami-Dade's Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) collects. Garbage goes out twice a week in the green cart, Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, and recycling every other week. The county's GIS tool shows your days by address.
Bulky pickup is by appointment. Each household gets two pickups per calendar year of up to 25 cubic yards each, or one combined pickup of up to 50 cubic yards. Booking a single pile over 25 cubic yards uses up the whole 50-cubic-yard limit for the year. Excess has a fee of $31 per cubic yard in the 2025 guide. Duplex owners can combine up to four pickups into one of up to 100 cubic yards.
Book through 311, miamidade.gov/bulkywaste or the MDC Solid Waste App. The calendar opens 30 days ahead, cancellations need 2 days' notice, and there are no waitlists or fit-ins. The pile goes out no more than 3 days early, and since April 1, 2023, early piles can bring anything from a warning to a civil citation. It must be at the curb by 7 a.m., within 10 feet of the street, with 15 feet of clearance up to the lowest branch or power line.
02What the curb won't take
The county is specific about what stays off the curb:
- Home chemical waste, rock and dirt
- Any single item over 150 lbs
- More than three cubic yards of construction and demolition debris
- More than three cubic yards of wooden fence
- Refrigerators and freezers with the doors still on
- Mattresses not enclosed in a plastic bag

03When calling Dany beats the calendar
Neither cart takes rocks, dirt, paint, tile, construction debris, liquids or flammables. Grass, leaves and trimmings go in the green cart, and tree limbs in a bulky pile can be no more than five feet long. Homes on manual collection bundle clippings in lengths up to 4 feet, under 50 pounds each.
The county system is fine when you can plan a month out. It is harder when you are moving out Saturday, when the next open appointment is weeks away, when you already used both pickups, or when the pile is remodel debris. Dany's crew loads from wherever it sits, garage or back room, so nothing waits at the curb and nothing risks a citation.

05Permits and tear-outs in Princeton
Miami-Dade RER Building issues permits for unincorporated properties, the ones with folios starting with 30, through the county portal. Residential total or detached demolition uses the Building Permit Application under Category 15; demolition attached to the home uses Category 02 plus drawings showing the electrical and plumbing connections to be removed. The application office is the Herbert S. Saffir Permitting and Inspection Center, 11805 SW 26th Street, (786) 315-2000. Once issued, you have 180 days to complete the work and call for inspections.
The county application also notes that a permit does not authorize work that breaks an association rule, so HOA approval is separate. Your general contractor or you pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out and the haul. Room demo starts at $750 and construction debris hauling at $200.
06Princeton homes, families and prices
Princeton began as a Florida East Coast Railroad depot, named by Gaston Drake after Princeton University; his saw mill ran until the timber gave out in 1923. It grew from 22,038 people in 2010 to 39,308 in 2020. Census estimates show 69.3% owner-occupied homes, a median value of $426,900 and 3.42 people per household, and 51.8% of households had children. U.S. 1 runs through it and the Turnpike forms its eastern edge, with Goulds to the north and Naranja to the southwest.
Busy family homes mean garage cleanouts, furniture swaps and move-outs. Rapid Haul works out of Hollywood, and Miami-Dade is one of its two main counties. Send a photo to (754) 249-1015 for one flat price. Same-day is often possible when you call early. Garage cleanouts start at $300, furniture at $125, appliances at $100 and house cleanouts at $1,000.
