The job
This was an old dock on a canal behind a home in Coral Gables. The owner wanted it gone. I posted clips the next day and called it what it is: "the type of work I do at Rapid Haul Services."
A dock is not like a backyard deck. Half the work is over the water, and nothing can be dropped in. Boards are often soft or rotten at the ends and the fasteners are rusted, so every piece takes care to get loose without losing it in the canal.
Working from a floating platform
We worked the dock from a floating platform. A crew member knelt on the float and pulled the boards one at a time, then slid each board onto the platform instead of letting it fall in the canal.
The float carried the boards back to the seawall, and from there they went up onto the lawn. The old red dock boards piled up on the grass until they were loaded for the haul.
How it ended
In my after photo, the seawall is clear and the dock is gone. How the old pilings were handled was settled on site; the photos from the job show the decking and frame coming off. The boards on the lawn were loaded and hauled away for disposal.
Docks and seawalls can be tied to permits and to rules about work near the water. Your contractor or the property owner handles any permits. We come in for the tear-out and the haul.
