How to measure a junk pile
Measure the longest side, the widest side and the highest point of the pile in feet, or pace it off and count each big step as about three feet. Round up: piles are never neat boxes, and it is better to plan for a bit more than less.
The calculator multiplies length by width by height for cubic feet and divides by 27 for cubic yards, the unit haulers and dumpsters use.
What the pickup-truck comparison means
Each bar is one pickup-truck bed with an 8-foot bed, heaped level with the sides, which holds about 2.5 cubic yards. It is a picture of size you already know, not the size of Rapid Haul's truck.
Volume is not weight
A cubic yard of couches and a cubic yard of roof tile are very different jobs. Heavy material changes the price and sometimes the trip; see what junk removal won't take for the items that need special handling, and the concrete removal calculator for slabs.
