What the Village's own bulk pickup takes

Bal Harbour handles its own trash. The Village states it provides solid waste, bulk waste and recycling collection for all residential units, and Miami-Dade County lists Bal Harbour among the cities served by their local government. The county's summary puts bulk at once a week, Village-wide.

In the gated residential community, bulk goes to the curb on Thursday. On the West Side of Collins Avenue and on the Ocean Front, you have to schedule it: call or email Public Works by 3:30 PM Wednesday for a Thursday pickup. The Village takes white goods, furniture, minor home repair debris and palm fronds. It does not take:

  • Contractor or service-generated debris
  • Recyclables or glass
  • Concrete
  • Hazardous materials

Tear-outs and demolition rules in Bal Harbour

Building and demolition permits come from the Bal Harbour Village Building Department at Village Hall, 655 96th Street, and applications can only be submitted in person. Exterior work first needs Architectural Review Board approval and a Certificate of Appropriateness. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

The Village code is stricter than most on demolition. It calls for a demolition plan and permit, written notice to owners within 300 feet at least ten days ahead, rodent control and a six-foot screened chain-link fence. No demolition activity is allowed on Saturdays, Sundays or Village holidays.

Dany's part is the non-structural tear-out and the haul: carpet, tile and wood flooring down to slab, vanities, cabinets and fixtures. Ask the Building Department whether your interior job counts as demolition under the code before you book. Since the Village will not pick up contractor debris, glass or concrete, tear-out debris here always leaves with a hauler.

Towers on the ocean, houses behind the gate

Bal Harbour is small: about 0.38 square miles and 3,093 people in the 2020 Census. Miami-Dade's own summary describes its housing as mostly high-rise condominiums and residential towers, with a limited number of single-family homes inside the gated Bal Harbour Village neighborhood. The 2020 Census counted 3,507 housing units, 56.6% of them vacant at the time of the count. The Village is also home to Bal Harbour Shops, the St. Regis Bal Harbour and Oceana at Bal Harbour.

In a tower, plan the job with management before Dany arrives: elevator reservation, loading hours, floor protection and whether they want a certificate of insurance. Rapid Haul carries $1M general liability. Tell Dany the building's rules with your photos and the price reflects the carry, not a surprise on the day.

Price and timing for a Bal Harbour pickup

Bal Harbour residents are not on Miami-Dade's eligibility list for the county Trash and Recycling Centers, and no Village drop-off site is on record. So when the Thursday bulk will not take it, a hauler is the practical route.

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood and covers Miami-Dade as a main area. Text Dany a photo at (754) 249-1015 for one flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Same-day is often possible when you call early, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Junk removal is paid after the job. Jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.

  • Furniture removal from $125
  • Appliance removal from $100
  • Room demo, such as flooring or a bathroom, from $750
  • Full unit or house cleanouts from $1,000

The three Village zones Dany works in

The Village splits its sanitation rules by zone, and the plan changes a little in each:

  • The gated residential community: houses with a Thursday curbside bulk day; tell Dany the gate process
  • West Side Collins Avenue: bulk must be scheduled, so a hauler saves the wait
  • Ocean Front: towers where the elevator and loading rules shape the whole job

Bal Harbour: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

Does Miami-Dade County pick up bulk trash in Bal Harbour?

No. Bal Harbour Village runs its own collection. Bulk goes out Thursdays, and outside the gated community you must call or email Public Works by 3:30 PM Wednesday to get on the list.

Will the Village take my old flooring or tile?

No. The Village does not take contractor or service-generated debris, glass or concrete. Flooring and tile from a tear-out has to go with a hauler.

Can you do tear-out work on a Saturday in Bal Harbour?

Village code bars demolition activity on Saturdays, Sundays and Village holidays, so tear-out jobs here are booked on weekdays. A plain furniture pickup is different; tell Dany your building's rules and he plans around them.

Who handles the permit and neighbor notice?

Your general contractor or you as the owner, through the Village Building Department, which takes applications in person. Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out and the haul.
