Junk removal in North Bay Village, island by island on the 79th Street Causeway
Condo and house cleanouts, furniture pickup and remodel debris hauling on North Bay, Treasure and Harbor Islands. Text Dany a photo for one flat, all-in price.
01How the Village's bulk pickup works on each island
North Bay Village collects its own trash with Village sanitation staff. The Village has been reviewing whether to privatize collection because in-house costs keep rising, and says bulk pickup is expected to stay the same; check the Village site for the outcome. Recycling is separate: Miami-Dade County handles single-family recycling (call 311), and Waste Connections of Florida handles multi-family and commercial buildings.
Bulk day depends on where you live and what kind of building it is. Every bulk pickup has to be requested ahead by email to [email protected]. The Village schedule and rules:
- Single-family homes on North Bay Island and Treasure Island: weekly, on Tuesday
- Multi-family buildings on Treasure Island and Harbor Island: the last Wednesday of the month
- Bulk and vegetation go on the swale no earlier than 24 hours before collection
- First early pile gets a courtesy warning; the second is a $200 citation
- Rocks, sand, dirt, concrete, bricks and building materials are not taken
02When a hauler makes more sense than bulk day
If you live in a multi-family building, bulk comes once a month. Moving out on the 5th means living with the pile, or parking it somewhere, for weeks. And in a high-rise, the hard part is not the curb anyway. It is getting a sofa, a mattress and a dining set down the elevator and out through the loading area.
That is where Dany's crew helps. They carry everything out of the unit, load it and haul it the same visit, so nothing waits on the swale. Before the day, ask your building management about:
- Service elevator booking and any padding required
- Loading area hours and where the truck can stand
- A certificate of insurance, if management asks for one
- Quiet hours for any tear-out work

03Flooring, tile and remodel debris, and the Village's demo rules
The Village will not pick up concrete, bricks or building materials. Its rules say the person producing that debris has to contract separately with a hauler. So pulling carpet, tile or a kitchen out of a condo here always means private hauling.
Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out and the haul: carpet and flooring down to the slab, tile, vanities, cabinets, counters and drywall. Never anything that holds up the building. Room demo starts at $750, and hauling a pile your remodel crew left starts at $200.
Permits come from the North Bay Village Building Department at 1666 Kennedy Causeway, Suite 101. Its demolition procedure is detailed. It asks for a signed and sealed survey, demolition plans, utility disconnect letters, Sunshine 811 locates, a construction fence with SWPPP, capped sewer and water, and a sidewalk bond ($500 single family, $1,000 commercial and multifamily). Full demolition must be done by a General Contractor or a holder of a Miami-Dade demolition or engineering specialty license. A partial demolition will not be accepted without complete plans for the rehab work submitted at the same time.
Your general contractor or you as the owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not pull permits. Dany works the tear-out and haul inside the job your contractor has permitted.
04Three islands, three kinds of jobs
North Bay Village is three islands in Biscayne Bay on the 79th Street (Kennedy) Causeway, between Miami to the west and Miami Beach to the east. North Bay Island is mostly single-family homes. Harbor Island is mainly multi-family. Treasure Island is split: single-family on the west end, multi-family on the east. The 2020 Census counted 8,159 residents and 4,590 housing units, 15.3% of them vacant.
That split shapes the work. Island houses tend to call about garages, patios and yard cleanups. The buildings tend to call about unit cleanouts between owners or tenants, and flooring or bathroom tear-outs. For yard work, note the Village's brush rules: one brush pile per collection no larger than 3'x4'x5' (2.2 cubic yards), branches cut to 3 feet and 4 inches across, and anything over that paid for in advance. Landscapers remove their own debris.

Single-family homes on North Bay Island and Treasure Island get bulk weekly on Tuesday. Multi-family buildings on Treasure Island and Harbor Island get it the last Wednesday of the month. Either way, request it ahead by email.
Can I put my pile out a few days early?
No. Bulk and vegetation go on the swale no earlier than 24 hours before collection. The first violation is a courtesy warning and the second is a $200 citation.
Will the Village take the tile from my condo remodel?
No. Concrete, bricks and building materials are not collected, and the Village says the producer must hire a hauler. Rapid Haul hauls remodel debris from $200.
Who pulls the demolition permit?
