Concrete and masonry we break out and haul

Concrete is the heaviest thing most homeowners ever need gone, and it is the one curbside pickup will not touch. Rapid Haul handles two kinds of concrete jobs: breaking out flatwork that is still in the ground, and hauling away concrete and masonry that is already broken up and sitting in a pile.

Typical jobs:

  • Back patios and slabs behind the house
  • Walkways, steps and garden paths
  • Shed and hot tub pads
  • Pool deck concrete (more on the pool page)
  • Old block planters and low garden walls that hold nothing up
  • Piles of broken concrete, block, brick, pavers and tile left from a remodel

What we leave for other trades

Concrete removal at Rapid Haul is non-structural. Foundations, footings that carry a building, retaining walls holding back soil, and anything tied into the house stay put. That work belongs to your builder or engineer. Driveways depend on size and thickness, so send a photo and Dany will tell you straight whether it is a job his crew should take on.

The general contractor or the property owner pulls any permit the project needs. If a slab has electrical conduit, an irrigation line or a gas line running through or under it, have the right trade disconnect and cap it before the crew breaks anything. That includes old lighting on a patio and the power feed to a hot tub pad.

Why concrete costs more to remove, and how Dany prices it

Concrete is priced by weight and effort more than by size. A thin walkway breaks easily. A thick slab with wire mesh or rebar inside takes much longer and weighs a lot more. Every piece has to be carried to the truck, and every load has to go to a disposal site that takes concrete, which is why heavy debris costs more to haul than a load of furniture.

Send Dany a photo of the area, a rough size, and if you can, a shot of an edge so he can see the thickness. You will get one flat, all-in price covering break-out, loading, hauling and disposal. For a pile of loose concrete or masonry, a photo of the pile with something for scale is enough.

Jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit to hold the date, with the balance due at the end.

South Florida ground and access

Concrete jobs in Broward and Miami-Dade often run into the same things. Tree roots lift and crack old patios and walks. Sandy soil under a slab settles, which is why so many patios tilt toward the house. Rainy afternoons turn a dirt side yard into mud, and that matters when every piece has to be wheeled out. The crew starts early in the day and plans the route out before the first piece comes up.

If you live in an HOA community, check whether there are rules about work hours, noise or truck parking, and send them to Dany. Breaking concrete is loud, and it is easier to plan around quiet hours than to stop halfway.

Masonry debris from a remodel

Contractors and homeowners in the middle of a project often already have the concrete broken. A tile job leaves mortar and thinset chunks. A remodel leaves broken block. A paver swap leaves a stack of old pavers. Rapid Haul hauls all of that away as a pickup, priced flat from a photo. David B. called Rapid Haul dependable for "debris hauling, demolition, or material delivery," which covers most of the heavy cleanup on a site.

For contractors with an ongoing project, heavy debris pickups can be set up as repeat visits. Text Dany when the pile is ready, and he will tell you when the crew can swing by. Keeping concrete off the site between pours and tile jobs keeps the work area safe and the client happy.

What the area looks like after

When the crew is done, the concrete is gone from the property and the ground where it sat is raked level enough to walk on. Small chips and dust are swept up off any surface that stays. If sod, pavers or a new slab are next, your installer starts from bare ground.

How the job runs, step by step

  1. Cracked concrete patio before removal

    Step 1

Check the slab and what runs under it

  2. Crew breaking an old concrete slab into pieces

    Step 2

    Break it into pieces

The concrete is broken into sizes the crew can lift and carry, working from the edge in.

  3. Broken concrete loaded for hauling

    Step 3

    Carry out and haul

Pieces are wheeled or carried to the truck, loaded, and hauled to a site that accepts concrete.

  4. Bare, raked ground where a concrete patio used to be

    Step 4

    Rake and sweep

The ground is raked and surrounding surfaces are swept of chips and dust.

Concrete Removal: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

How much does it cost to remove a slab of concrete?

It depends on size, thickness and access. Text a photo with a rough size to (754) 249-1015 and Dany will send one flat price that includes hauling.

How do I dispose of concrete at home?

Most curbside pickup will not take it, and disposal sites that do take it charge by weight. The easy way is to have it broken out and hauled in one visit.

Can you just haul away concrete that is already broken?

Yes. Loose concrete, block, brick, pavers and tile are a regular pickup, priced flat from a photo of the pile.

Do you remove driveways?

It depends on the size and thickness. Send Dany a photo and he will tell you honestly whether it is a fit for his crew.

Can you remove a foundation or retaining wall?

No. Rapid Haul keeps to non-structural concrete like patios, walks and small slabs. Foundations and retaining walls are work for your builder.

Is a deposit required?

Jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit to hold the date, with the balance due when the work is done.
