What WM picks up as bulk in Lauderdale Lakes

Garbage and bulk waste in Lauderdale Lakes are collected by the City's contracted hauler, Waste Management (WM). Bulk day is tied to your regular garbage day, which is Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday depending on your area; call WM at 954-974-7500 to confirm your day and to report a missed pickup.

WM takes furniture and large appliances such as stoves, washing machines and water tanks. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners are taken only once the refrigerant has been properly removed and verified. Bundled yard waste goes with bulk, while loose clippings, leaves and small trimmings go in your garbage cart. If you hired a landscaper or tree service, their debris is theirs to remove.

Bulk goes to the curb no earlier than 24 hours before collection and must be ready by 7 a.m. The City warns that putting it out too early may be a code violation.

Keep renovation debris out of the bulk pile

The City lists what WM will not collect: construction or demolition debris, steel or construction materials, pipe, brick, concrete, drywall, lumber or other renovation debris, and loose household trash. The important part is this line: mixing that debris with acceptable bulk may stop the whole pile from being collected.

So if a turnover includes ripped-out carpet, a vanity or a few sheets of drywall, that needs to go separately. Rapid Haul takes both piles at once, junk and debris, so nothing is left sitting at the curb tagged. Construction debris starts at $200.

Tear-outs and permits in Lauderdale Lakes

The City of Lauderdale Lakes Building Department is at 3521 NW 43rd Avenue (954-535-2480). The City's permitting page says plans for work involving demolition, additions, alterations or new construction must first be approved by the Broward County Department of Urban Planning and Redevelopment, while interior renovations may be submitted directly to the City's Building Division.

The GC or the property owner pulls those permits. Rapid Haul does not. Rapid Haul does non-structural tear-out (kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, drywall) and hauls the debris away. Room demo starts at $750, and jobs of $1,000 and over take a 50% deposit.

Rentals, condos and turnovers

Fewer than half the homes in Lauderdale Lakes are owner-occupied (47.6%), the median owner-occupied value is $214,100, and the city has 12,498 households. It started as a popular retirement area for snowbirds and is now a predominantly Caribbean and African American community. The City runs separate condominium garbage service and a condo and rental dumpster service class, so a condo or rental building may have its own trash arrangements rather than curbside bulk.

Those numbers point to landlord turnovers, tenant move-outs and condo cleanouts, often on the day a lease ends. Furniture removal starts at $125, appliance removal at $100 and full house cleanouts at $1,000. Rapid Haul works in Eastgate, Northgate, Oriole Estates, Oakland Estates and Westgate, and next door in Tamarac, Lauderhill, Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale.

No county drop-off, so here is the alternative

Lauderdale Lakes is not on Broward County's list of participating cities for its Residential Drop-off Centers, and a public bulk drop-off for residents is not listed. For paint, chemicals and electronics, the City joins a multi-city collection event program; remaining 2026 events are November 21 at Mill Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale (2201 NW 9th Avenue) and December 5 in Tamarac (6011 Nob Hill Road), with proof of residency.

For everything else, Rapid Haul is the short route. The home base is Hollywood, and Broward is the core service area. Text a photo to (754) 249-1015. Dany answers himself and gives one flat price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Call early and same-day pickup is often possible. Junk removal is paid after the job.

Lauderdale Lakes: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

Who picks up bulk trash in Lauderdale Lakes?

Waste Management (WM), the City's contracted hauler. Call WM at 954-974-7500 to confirm your bulk day.

Will WM take my old refrigerator?

Only once the refrigerant has been properly removed and verified. Rapid Haul removes appliances from $100.

Why wasn't my bulk pile picked up?

One common reason: the City says mixing construction or renovation debris into a bulk pile may stop it from being collected. Keep debris separate, or have Rapid Haul take it.

Can I use the Broward County drop-off centers?

Lauderdale Lakes is not on the County's participating list. The County says to contact your city's Public Works Department.

Does a demolition in Lauderdale Lakes need County approval?

Per the City, plans for demolition, additions or alterations must first be approved by Broward County's Department of Urban Planning and Redevelopment. Interior renovations may go straight to the City's Building Division. The GC or owner handles that.
