Oakland Park's monthly bulk pickup, and what it won't take

Oakland Park collects its own trash through the Public Works Solid Waste Division. Bulk comes once a month: your service week is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Monday of the month, shown on the city's bulk map. Weeks that start on a 5th Monday get no bulk collection; in 2026 those are March 30, June 29, August 31 and November 30.

Bulk trash piles are limited to 10 cubic yards, which the city describes as about 3 feet high, 15 feet long and 6 feet wide. The 2026 info sheet says to set out no earlier than the Saturday before your week, while the city's web page says Sunday; both say the deadline is 7 a.m. Monday. Collection can come any day that week, no later than Friday. White goods, large metal items and electronics are collected, with appliance doors and propane tank valves removed.

These are not taken without an extra charge, or not at all:

  • Construction or demolition debris, including concrete, lumber, fence panels and pallets
  • Tree stumps, auto or marine parts, sand, dirt, rocks and sod
  • Bags over 50 lb
  • Trash generated by contracted services
  • Household hazardous waste, never

Estate and vacant-home cleanouts need a different plan

One city rule matters a lot for estates: bulk left in front of vacant land or a vacant home is not collected, and the city can take enforcement action and charge for it. If a parent's house is empty while the family sorts it out, the curb is not an option.

That is where an estate cleanout comes in. Dany walks the house with you, takes what you mark, leaves what you keep, and hauls everything else in one trip or a few. House cleanouts start at $1,000. Tell him about anything that must not leave, and anything going to family, before the truck is loaded.

Tear-outs and permits in Oakland Park

Permits come from the City of Oakland Park Building and Permitting Division in the Sky Building, 1100 Park Lane East, 1st Floor, open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Broward County Uniform Building Permit Application is required. The city FAQ says a permit is needed to construct, alter, repair, move, remove or demolish any building, structure, or part of one.

Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not. Dany handles the non-structural tear-out and the haul: kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, an old fence or shed. Never anything that holds up the house. Room demo starts at $750 and fence or shed jobs get a flat price after a photo. Since monthly bulk excludes construction debris and anything from contracted services, the debris leaves with the truck.

Older neighborhoods and a city that keeps changing

Oakland Park began in 1925 as the Town of Floranada and reincorporated as Oakland Park in 1929. It grew from 1,295 people in 1950 to 16,261 in 1970, and to 44,229 in the 2020 Census. The city has annexed formerly unincorporated neighborhoods such as Twin Lakes South and North Andrews Gardens, and it is rezoning its downtown along the FEC railway and Dixie Highway into a mixed-use district.

Census survey data shows 58.3% of homes owner-occupied and a median value of $385,000, with 20,596 housing units in 2020. Homes built in those growth decades are now old enough for kitchen and bath remodels. In condos, the city has owners put their bulk in one common spot set by the city and the association.

Price, same-day and drop-off options

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood, and Broward is one of Dany's two main counties. Text a photo to (754) 249-1015 for one flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Same-day pickup is often possible when you call early, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Junk removal is paid after the job; jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.

To self-haul, Oakland Park residents can use the Broward County drop-off centers on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., up to four times a month. The city's flyer names the North center at 2780 N. Powerline Road in Pompano Beach. Trucks larger than a 1-ton pickup, commercial vehicles and trailers over 8 feet are turned away. As of 2026, Public Works no longer takes tires.

Oakland Park: common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.

When can I put bulk trash out in Oakland Park?

The weekend before your assigned Monday, and no later than 7 a.m. that Monday. City sources differ on Saturday or Sunday as the earliest day. There is no bulk in weeks that start on a 5th Monday.

Will the city pick up bulk from my late parent's empty house?

No. Bulk placed in front of a vacant home or vacant land is not collected and can bring enforcement and charges. A hauler is the way to clear an empty house.

Does the monthly pickup take remodel debris?

Not without an extra charge. Concrete, lumber and fence panels count as construction debris, and trash from contracted services is not serviced at all.

How much is a house cleanout in Oakland Park?

House cleanouts start at $1,000. Send Dany photos of each room and he gives you one flat price. Jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit, and Dany tells you up front if yours does.
