What Waste Management takes on your Lauderhill bulk day

Lauderhill's trash and bulk are collected by Waste Management (954-615-4050). The City says residents receive bulk service based on their address, so check the City's bulk map or call WM for your day.

The City's bulk list covers refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners with refrigerants properly removed and verified, large appliances like stoves, water tanks and washing machines, and furniture. WM will not collect bulk piles that contain construction and demolition debris, including steel, glass, pipe, brick, concrete, gypsum wallboard and lumber, or piles of loose trash, which belong in your garbage cart. Extra bags placed next to the 96-gallon cart will not be collected either.

Two of those rules catch people out. An old fridge or window unit can't just go to the curb until the refrigerant is dealt with. And one sheet of drywall mixed into a furniture pile can get the whole pile left behind.

The 6 pm rule

Lauderhill is strict about timing. Bulk items may only go out the night before your bulk pickup, after 6:00 pm. Bulk placed out early is stickered and removed by the City's contractor at the property owner's expense.

So a cleanout can't be staged on the swale over a weekend. Either everything waits inside until the right evening, or it goes straight from the house onto a truck. With Rapid Haul it is the second: Dany's crew carries it out, loads it and leaves, and nothing sits at the curb.

For household hazardous and electronic waste, the City says it offers free disposal through city and county drop-off centers with proof of residency. Broward County's Residential Drop-Off Centers take household hazardous waste and electronics on Saturdays only, from 9AM to 3PM, at 2780 N. Powerline Road in Pompano Beach, 5490 Reese Road in Davie and 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. in West Park. A bulk or construction debris drop-off for Lauderhill residents is not published.

Tear-outs and Lauderhill permits

Permits come from the City of Lauderhill Building Division, based in the Ken Thurston Inverrary Community Center at 3300 Inverrary Blvd, (954) 739-0100 option 3. Applications need a folio number and are dropped off in person at City Hall, 5581 W Oakland Park Blvd, and contractors must be registered with the City. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

Rapid Haul does non-structural tear-out and the haul: carpet and tile down to the slab, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and tubs, never anything that holds up the building. Since WM won't take construction debris, the haul is part of the flat price.

Lauderhill homes: big buildings, 1970s builds

Lauderhill was built by developer Herbert Sadkin, who first sold his home designs through Macy's. The Inverrary Country Club opened in 1970, and until the late 1980s Lauderhill was largely a retirement community and a second home for snowbirds, especially in Inverrary.

Census estimates show it today: 30,733 housing units, 39.3% of them in buildings of 20 or more units, 29.5% single-family detached, a median build year of 1976, and 55.8% owner-occupied. A lot of Lauderhill work is condo and apartment work: a unit cleared after a move or an estate, old carpet pulled before new floors, a 1970s kitchen or bath torn out. How it works and what it costs from Hollywood

Dany answers himself and sends one flat, all-in price for labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Same-day pickup is often possible when you call early, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Junk removal is paid after the job; jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.
