What Lighthouse Point's twice-weekly bulk pickup takes

The city partners with WM, and bulk trash and yard waste go out twice a week, on the same days as your regular garbage, with no appointment. Have it at the curb by 7 a.m. on service day, and do not put anything but vegetation out before 3 p.m. the day before.

The city takes furniture, carpet, mattresses, yard waste, white goods and some homeowner remodel pieces: a bathtub, a toilet, sinks, cabinets, doors and fencing. Nothing in the pile can be longer than 12 feet, and the bulk has to come from the property it sits in front of.

What the city leaves behind

Twice a week is great until the pile is the wrong kind. The city will not take:

• Dirt, sand, pavers, concrete, masonry and tile
• Anything a contractor generated
• Tree stumps or tree sections more than 12 inches across
• Boats and boat parts, vehicles and vehicle parts
• Paint and other hazardous materials
• Combined piles

Tear-outs and demolition permits on the waterway

Permits come from the City of Lighthouse Point Building & Zoning Department, 3701 NE 22nd Avenue, open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an online public portal. The city's demolition permit checklist is long. Among other items it asks for building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical applications, a recorded warranty deed, notarized approval from all owners, an asbestos statement and an underground utilities statement. It also calls for a temporary 6-foot chain-link fence with wind screening, and silt fencing along the waterway.

The GC or the property owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not. Dany does the non-structural tear-out and the haul: kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, decks and docks down to what you tell him stays.

That tile and concrete rule matters on a remodel. Your old tub and vanity can go to the curb, but the tile floor and the mortar bed behind it cannot, and anything your contractor pulled out will not be collected at all. That debris needs a separate haul. Construction debris hauling starts at $200.

Canal homes built in the 1950s and 1960s

Most of Lighthouse Point is built on canals dug in the 1950s and 1960s, which is why so many homes are on the water, with boats running out through the Hillsboro Inlet. Census figures put owner-occupancy at 77.3% and the median owner-occupied home at $688,400. The median age in 2020 was 53.5.

That shapes the work. Docks and wood decks on the water eventually have to come out. Deck demo starts at $550. Long-time owners remodel or downsize, so garage and house cleanouts come up. Boats and boat parts are off the city's bulk list, so if you have old boat gear in the garage, send Dany a photo and he will tell you straight whether it is a job he takes.

Pricing and same-day from Hollywood

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood, and Lighthouse Point is in the regular Broward service area, between Deerfield Beach to the north and Pompano Beach to the west and south. Text a photo to (754) 249-1015 and Dany sends one flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal.

Same-day is often possible when you call early, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Junk removal is paid after the job. Jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.

Lighthouse Point is not on Broward County's list of cities that can use the residential drop-off centers for bulk and yard waste, so for anything the curb will not take, a hauler is the practical answer.
