How county bulky pickup works in The Crossings

The Crossings is unincorporated, so Miami-Dade County's Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is your trash service. Garbage goes out twice a week, either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, in the green cart. Bulk works by appointment.

Each household gets two scheduled bulky pickups per calendar year, January through December, of up to 25 cubic yards each, or one combined pickup of up to 50 cubic yards. A single pickup over 25 cubic yards uses up the whole year's allowance, and authorized excess costs $31 per cubic yard, per the 2025 guide. Book through 311, miamidade.gov/bulkywaste, the MDC Solid Waste App or 311Direct before the pile goes out. Since April 1, 2023, a pile set out more than 3 days before the appointment can draw anything from a warning to a civil citation.

What the curb will not take:

  • Home chemicals, rock and dirt
  • Any single item over 150 lbs
  • More than three cubic yards of construction and demolition debris
  • Refrigerators and freezers with the doors still on

If your community has dumpster service

Some communities in DSWM's area get twice-weekly residential dumpster service instead of carts, and the county keeps a separate multi-family service category apart from the single-family bundle. The bulky pickups and drop-off center access come with the single-family bundle. If you are on dumpster service, the county says furniture and appliances should not go in the dumpster or be left in the enclosure; they go to a Trash and Recycling Center.

So in those communities a couch, a mattress or an old washer has nowhere to go but a drop-off center. Dany can carry it out of the unit and take it, so nothing sits in the enclosure.

Permits and tear-outs in unincorporated Miami-Dade

There is no city hall in The Crossings, so building and demolition permits go through Miami-Dade County's Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER), Building. Applications can be filed at the Herbert S. Saffir Permitting and Inspection Center. The county's demolition page lists required items for residential and commercial demolition, and commercial demolition also needs asbestos review. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.

Dany does the non-structural tear-out and the haul: kitchen cabinets, vanities, tile, flooring, a garage storage build-out, a shed. Never anything that holds up the house. Room demo starts at $750 and shed removal at $350. Remodel debris goes past the county's three cubic yard curb limit fast, and the drop-off centers take construction debris limited to three cubic yards per customer per day.

Townhouses, single-family homes and garages

The Crossings runs from Kendall Drive (SW 88th Street) south to SW 120th Street, between Florida's Turnpike and SW 137th Avenue. It is made up of single-family homes and townhouses, with 8,917 housing units in 2020 and only 3.4% vacant. Devon Aire and Calusa are among its named neighborhoods. It had 23,276 people in the 2020 Census.

In homes like these, the usual jobs are a garage that stopped fitting a car, a move-out on a short timeline, or a kitchen coming out for a remodel. A garage cleanout starts at $300.

Price and same-day pickup in The Crossings

Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood and works Miami-Dade as a main county. Text a photo to (754) 249-1015. Dany sends one flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Same-day pickup is often possible when you call early, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Junk removal is paid after the job; jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.

Self-hauling is an option for DSWM customers: the Sunset Kendall center at 8000 SW 107 Avenue and Richmond Heights at 14050 Boggs Drive are open daily 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a Florida license or ID that matches a waste fee account. Richmond Heights does not take white goods or mattresses, and larger trailers are turned away.
