Junk removal in Margate, past the city's weekly bulk limit
Junk removal, house cleanouts and bathroom or kitchen tear-outs in Margate. Text Dany a photo, get one flat, all-in price, often the same day.
01Margate's weekly bulk pickup and its limit
Margate has an exclusive franchise with Republic Services, which replaced Waste Management on February 1, 2022. Bulk and yard waste go out once a week, on the garbage day opposite your recycling day.
The catch is the size. The city limits bulk and yard waste piles to three (3) cubic yards, and there is no charge for the first 3 cubic yards. Anything bigger gets a non-collection notice telling you to book a paid supplemental pickup through Republic at 954-583-1830.
Other rules worth knowing: nothing out more than three days before your collection day, at the curb by 7 a.m., at least 3 feet from other objects and not under low branches or wires. Fridges, freezers and AC units need the Freon removed by a certified technician and labeled. Large yard waste can be no more than 8 inches across and 6 feet long.
02What Margate's bulk truck will not take
The city lists construction materials (concrete, drywall, tile, dirt), electronics including TVs, hazardous waste, tires, propane tanks, lawnmowers, glass items and most bagged items as not accepted. Only small amounts of lumber from incidental home repairs are taken.
A full house cleanout will almost always blow past the weekly pile limit. You can stretch it over several weeks, pay for supplemental pickups, or have it all hauled in one trip. That last one is what Dany does: everything loaded from inside the house, one flat price, gone the same day.

03Bathroom and kitchen tear-outs, and Margate permits
City Code Sec. 19-9 says the city is not responsible for hauling discarded building material, dirt, rock, plaster or iron from private property. The owner or occupant has to remove it, and contractor-generated waste is never taken as bulk. The city points residents to a list of facilities that take construction debris for a fee.
Permits come from the City of Margate Building Department, 901 NW 66th Avenue, 954-970-3004. Submittals are electronic only, through ProjectDox, and a demolition permit package is among the posted applications. The city requires a permit to remove or demolish any building, structure or any part of one, and says Broward County environmental approval through ePermits is required for demolition.
The GC or the property owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not. Dany does the non-structural tear-out (old tile, tubs, vanities, cabinets, drywall, flooring) and hauls every bit of it, since none of it can go to the curb. Room demo starts at $750 and construction debris hauling at $200.
04Houses on canals, built from the 1950s on
Margate was founded in the 1950s on former Everglades and farmland, became a town in 1955 and a city in 1961. The city covers about nine square miles of tree-lined streets and 30 miles of canals.
Census figures put owner-occupancy at 77.2%, the median owner-occupied home at $316,200, and residents 65 and older at 23.5%. Long-time owners remodeling or downsizing is a big share of the work: bathroom and kitchen tear-outs, garage cleanouts from $300, and full house cleanouts from $1,000 when a home is sold or settled.
Multi-family communities can opt into the city franchise for garbage, recycling and weekly bulk, so if you live in one, ask your association what applies before setting anything out.

05Price and same-day service from Hollywood
Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood, and Margate is in the regular Broward service area, bordered by Coral Springs, North Lauderdale and Coconut Creek. Text a photo to (754) 249-1015 and Dany sends one flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal.
Same-day is often possible when you call early, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Junk removal is paid after the job. Jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.
Margate is not on Broward County's bulk and yard waste drop-off list. Residents can take household hazardous waste, and electronics per the county, to the county drop-off centers on Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proof of residency.
