Why a torn-down shed does not fit Davie's bulk pile

Davie's monthly bulk pickup is built for household items: furniture, mattresses, carpets and appliances. A shed is different. Once it comes down, you have roof panels or shingles, a floor, framing, and often a pile of brush that grew up around it.

The Town's bulk rules say rock, asphalt, tar, gravel, tile, roofing materials and other earthen materials must be placed in a hard-bottom container of sufficient strength before Coastal Waste & Recycling will collect them. Bulk in general should not exceed 15 cubic yards, and anything over that is billed per yard. Tree limbs and trunks in the pile must be no longer than five feet and no heavier than 75 lbs.

Permits in Davie come from the Town's own Building Division at 8800 SW 36th Street, Building A, phone 954-797-1111. Applications go through the Town's online submittal system. The Division publishes a Demolition Checklist that, for a full-structure demo, lists items like asbestos notification to Broward County and utility disconnect letters.

Whether your shed or detached garage needs a permit is a question for the Building Division, and the property owner or the general contractor pulls it. Dany does not pull permits. Davie lots: open space, long carries, more to clear

A Florida Department of Transportation study describes western Davie as more rural, with extensive open space tracts and equestrian trails. On bigger lots, the shed often sits far from the driveway, past a fence or a side gate. That walk is part of the job, so include a photo of the path from the shed to where a truck can park.

One job Dany posted with a Davie location tag was a shed cleanout combined with tearing down an old utility trailer, plus a yard cleanup. It took the crew three days. Most single sheds are a one-visit job, but it shows the range: if it stands on its own and nothing holds it to the house, send the photos and Dany will price it.

Overgrowth around an old shed is common. If the brush, vines and fallen limbs around it should go too, say so, and the crew clears them in the same visit.

Doing it yourself through the County drop-off

Davie is a participating city at Broward County's Central Residential Drop-Off Center, 5490 Reese Road, open Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its list names bulk waste such as furniture, appliances and yard waste, so check with the County before you bring shed panels. Residents need two proofs of residency, and the County turns away vehicles bigger than a 1-ton pickup and trailers longer than 8 feet.
