01SWA curbside pickup in The Acreage, and a rough start this fall
The Acreage is unincorporated, so collection runs through the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) and its franchise haulers. New seven-year SWA contracts started October 1, 2026. CBS12 reported that Service Area 3, which includes The Acreage and is served by Coastal Waste and Recycling, logged more than half of the missed-pickup notifications in the first two weeks. SWA itself says it is aware of delays as the new haulers settle in, and some residents have new collection days.
Garbage goes out twice a week, and recycling, yard waste and bulk once a week, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Bulk is limited to three items on your bulk day. Put out more and the hauler takes three and tags the rest. Appliance doors must be removed or sealed. Sliding glass doors, wall mirrors and windows count as construction debris: they have to be broken up and containerized, or taken to an SWA facility at $80 per ton.
Check your days with SWA's My Service Collection Days tool or call 561-697-2700.
02Big lots, brush and the yard waste limits
Yard rules changed on October 1, 2026 under amended Ordinance 2026-014. Branches must be cut to six feet or less and weigh no more than fifty pounds each. Piles must not exceed six cubic yards, and piles over six cubic yards per week are tagged and not serviced. SWA can remove a tagged pile at its contract rate of $10 per cubic yard, within 72 hours of payment, or you can hire someone. A non-conforming pile has to be gone within 30 days of the tag. And debris from land clearing or tree removal is not collected at the curb at all.
That is the core of the work here. Rapid Haul clears overgrown brush, cut branches, palm fronds and junk mixed into the growth, then hauls it away. Standing trees and stumps are for a tree service, but if one has already dropped and cut a tree, Dany can load and haul what they leave.

03Permits, ITID swales and tear-outs
Building permits for unincorporated Palm Beach County come from Planning, Zoning and Building (PZB), Building Division, at 2300 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach, 561-233-5100, or online through ePZB. County policy PB-O-110 says a demolition permit is required for any structure that would need a building permit to build, including swimming pools, and a 1 and 2 family dwelling demolition must include its accessory structures unless the Building Official approves otherwise. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.
Dany's part is the non-structural tear-out and the haul: sheds from $350, wood decks from $550, fences, above-ground pools and pool decks, and room demo from $750. Never anything that holds up the house, and no in-ground pools.
The Acreage sits entirely inside the Indian Trail Improvement District (ITID), which maintains the roads, swales and canals. ITID asks residents to keep containers and debris piles off the roads so graders can work, and only permitted driveways, sod and mailboxes belong in swale easements. Dany stages the load on your property, not in the swale.
04Rural lots, horses and storm damage
The Acreage covers about 34 square miles and had 41,654 people in the 2020 Census. Census data shows 92.7% of homes owner-occupied and a median home value of $524,800. It started as one-acre lots for citrus-grove workers, and its large lots, dirt roads and wooded areas give it a rural feel. The county's neighborhood plan aims to protect that large-lot pattern and keep the area a safe place to live and ride horses.
Weather has hit it hard. Older wooden cottage-style houses took considerable damage in the 2004 hurricanes, and an EF3 tornado from Hurricane Milton struck on October 9, 2024. Big lots collect what storms leave behind: broken sheds, downed fencing, piles of limbs.

05How Acreage jobs are priced and booked
Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood, with Broward and Miami-Dade as Dany's main counties. Palm Beach County jobs, including The Acreage, are by request, when the job is worth the drive. A full lot clearing, a shed and fence tear-out or a whole-house cleanout usually is. No same-day promises here.
Text photos to (754) 249-1015, including one that shows how far back the growth goes and one of the path to the road. Dany answers himself and sends one flat, all-in price covering labor, loading, hauling and disposal. Junk removal is paid after the job; jobs of $1,000 and over, mostly demolition, take a 50% deposit.
Self-haulers can use the West Central Transfer Station at 9743 Weisman Way in Royal Palm Beach, Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Acreage: common questions
Something else on your mind? Call (754) 249-1015.
How many bulk items will SWA take in The Acreage?
Three items on your weekly bulk day. If you put out more, the hauler removes three and tags the rest.
Will SWA pick up brush from clearing my lot?
No. Debris from land clearing or tree removal is not collected at the curb, and oversized yard piles are tagged and left. A hauler or a drop-off trip is the way to move it.
Do I need a permit to tear down an old shed?
County policy requires a demolition permit for any structure that needed a building permit to build. Ask PZB about yours. Your GC or you pull it; Rapid Haul does the tear-out and haul, from $350 for a shed.
