Junk removal in Westlake, FL, when three bulk items a week is not enough
Garage cleanouts, move-outs, furniture pickup and remodel debris in Westlake, by request when the job is worth the drive from Hollywood. Text Dany a photo.
01What WM picks up in Westlake, and the three-item rule
Westlake's trash is collected by Waste Management (WM), under contract with the City as the approved county solid waste hauler for that part of Palm Beach County. Garbage goes out Tuesdays and Fridays, recycling Tuesdays, and vegetation and bulk Fridays. Everything has to be out before 6:00 a.m., and collection runs until 5:00 p.m.
The City's bulk rule is short: bulk trash is limited to three items per week, collected on your second service day. Furniture and appliances can go to the curb, with refrigerator, freezer, washer and dryer doors removed or sealed. Broken glass has to be in a sealed container under 50 lbs, not a plastic bag. Household hazardous waste is never collected at the curb.
Three items a week is fine for an old recliner. A full garage, a move-out or a house of furniture would take weeks of Fridays. One haul is usually simpler.
02What the City says you must haul yourself
The City is direct about this. The hauler is not required to collect:
- Fencing
- Debris from demolishing sheds or storage buildings
- Debris from major remodeling

03Tear-outs and permits in Westlake
Permits come from the City of Westlake Building Department at 4001 Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, (561) 530-5880. Its requirements say a building permit is needed for construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, demolition or change of occupancy. Commercial projects are also referred to Engineering, Planning and Zoning, the Seminole Improvement District and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Your general contractor, or you as the owner, pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not.
Since the City leaves fencing, shed debris and remodel debris to the homeowner or contractor, Rapid Haul's part fits neatly: the non-structural tear-out and the haul. Fence removal, shed removal from $350, room demo from $750 and construction debris hauling from $200. Never anything that holds up the house.
04A new city built on former farmland
Westlake is a young city. The land was farmland in the Seminole Improvement District from the early 1960s. Minto Communities bought about 3,800 acres in 2013, building started in 2014, and the city incorporated on June 22, 2016 as Palm Beach County's 39th municipality. Its name partly nods to Weston, and both have many man-made lakes.
The 2020 Census counted 906 people, a number from the city's early years. Minto's first two neighborhoods, The Hammocks and The Meadows, sold out by early 2021. Cresswind is a 55+ community by Kolter Homes planned for up to 800 homes, and Sky Cove has 204 single-family homes. Census data puts the median owner-occupied home value at $629,100. Housing unit counts and the owner-occupied rate are not published for Westlake yet.
With homes this new, the work here is less about old-house tear-outs and more about garages, move-ins, move-outs and the leftovers from a remodel or a new build.

05How Palm Beach County jobs work
Rapid Haul is based in Hollywood, and Broward and Miami-Dade are Dany's main counties. Palm Beach County jobs, including Westlake, are by request, when the job is worth the drive. That usually means a full garage, a whole-house move-out or a load of remodel debris rather than a single chair. No same-day promises up here.
