Friday bulk in Haverhill: what it takes

Haverhill runs its own collection through the town's Solid Waste Department. Each home has a light blue 95-gallon can for household trash only. Under the schedule effective October 1, 2025, garbage goes out Tuesday and Friday, bagged and in the town can, and Friday is bulk day.

The town defines bulk as any large item that won't fit in the can: refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, small air conditioners and similar appliances, plus yard toys. It also takes wood and building scraps from small do-it-yourself projects done without a contractor, like scrap flooring. Bulk and furniture are piled at the curb. Glass panes over 3 feet square are not allowed, and small items must be containerized.

Bulk does not include debris from land clearing, land development, commercial construction, contractor waste, demolition or major home improvement projects. If you plan a large pile, the town asks you to call Town Hall at 561-689-0370 ext. 3 ahead of time.

Vegetation pickup and landscapers

Vegetation is picked up on Tuesday and may not go to the curb before 4 p.m. the Friday before. The town's rules:

  • Piled at the curb in 6-foot lengths, under 50 pounds each, not mixed with anything else
  • Leaves, coconuts and other small yard debris containerized
  • Palm fronds left unbundled, no longer than six feet
  • Landscapers must be registered with the town and remove vegetative waste over 5 cubic yards themselves
  • Belvedere Road and Haverhill Road are named as streets with early pickup

Tear-outs, permits and contractor registration

The Town of Haverhill Building Department is at Town Hall, 4585 Charlotte Street (561-689-0370 ext. 2, [email protected]), and the Building Official is Durrani Guy. The town says all permits must be obtained before work begins. The Building Permit Application must be signed and notarized by both the property owner and the contractor, and there is a separate Land Clearing, Land Fill and Tree Removal Permit Application.

The town also says every contractor working in Haverhill must register with the town before starting any work. Dany will tell you before you book whether that applies to your job.

Your general contractor or you as the owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not. Dany's crew handles the non-structural tear-out and the haul. Since demolition and major home improvement debris are excluded from bulk, that haul is needed for almost every remodel.

Disposal and drop-off options

The town posts a Solid Waste Authority notice on construction and demolition debris recycling, with a list of drop-off locations for that debris. The Solid Waste Authority says flow control applies countywide.

Household chemicals from a garage or house cleanout can go to an SWA Home Chemical and Recycling Center: 6161 N Jog Road in West Palm Beach, or the West Central Transfer Station at 9743 Weisman Way in Royal Palm Beach. Drop-off is free for county residents.

A small 1940s town by the airport

Haverhill covers 0.63 square miles just west-northwest of Palm Beach International Airport. Its first homes were built in the 1940s on former pineland, and it was named for Haverhill, Massachusetts, where many of the first settlers came from. The county's Haverhill Park, at 5470 Belvedere Road, is inside the town. In 2020 it had 2,187 people, 746 housing units (4.6% vacant) and 712 households, and it is surrounded by unincorporated areas including Lake Belvedere Estates, Royal Palm Estates and Stacy Street.

In a town of small, older homes, the calls are kitchen and bathroom tear-outs, garage cleanouts and furniture after a move. Old appliances can go out on Friday bulk; the remodel debris can't.
