Junk removal in North Palm Beach, from ranch-style homes to waterfront cul-de-sacs
Cleanouts, furniture and appliance pickup, and dock or deck tear-out debris in North Palm Beach, by request when the job is worth the drive.
01What the Village's own crews pick up, and on which days
North Palm Beach collects its own trash. The Village's Solid Waste Division handles residential and commercial garbage, and Public Works answers at 561-691-3440, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Village's sanitation page warns that its old schedule magnet is out of date. The current week:
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday: garbage and vegetation
- Tuesday: blue bin and bulk items
- Thursday: yellow bin and bulk items
- Everything out by 7:00 a.m.
- Bulk is by appointment only, through the Village's online bulk pickup request form
- Do not mix bulk with vegetation, and plate glass over four feet must be taped in several X patterns
02Where the Village's bulk pickup stops
The Village defines bulk as items too large for a garbage can that two people can still carry to the curb, such as a refrigerator or a mattress. That rules out a lot of real cleanouts: a piano, a solid wood armoire, a heavy safe, or a whole garage that two people cannot move in one evening. It also rules out anything you cannot get to the curb yourself.
The Village also lists what it will not collect at all and sends residents to the Solid Waste Authority instead: batteries, boat parts and engines, car parts, fluorescent bulbs, paint, propane tanks, used motor oil and filters. Vegetation does not include dirt, rocks or land-clearing debris, and lawn and tree contractors must haul away whatever they trim.
When the job is bigger than two people and a Tuesday, send Dany a photo. The crew carries items out from wherever they are, loads them and hauls them in one visit.

03Remodels, demo permits and waterfront work
Remodel debris is always private hauling here. The Village says building contractors and handymen must remove their construction debris, so a kitchen or bath tear-out never goes out with the trash.
Rapid Haul does the non-structural tear-out and the haul: cabinets, counters, vanities, tile, flooring and drywall, plus old wood decks and dock decking. Never anything that holds up the house, and no seawall work. Room demo starts at $750, deck demo at $550, and hauling debris another crew left starts at $200.
Permits come from the Village of North Palm Beach Building Department, 701 U.S. Highway 1, Suite 100 ((561) 841-3365, [email protected]), with applications online through the MGO portal and HOA approval requested for condominium work. The Village's demolition checklist is thorough: a permit application with the owner's signature, a survey, a rodent control letter, a utility disconnect letter, silt fence and debris control drawn on the survey, a plumbing sub-permit for wet demo, and new house plans or a landscape plan before the permit is issued. A pre-demo inspection is required. The Village posts a separate seawall checklist too.
Your general contractor or you as the owner pulls the permit. Rapid Haul does not pull permits.
04A 1950s planned village built around the water
North Palm Beach was developed by John D. MacArthur's interests from 1954. Builders worked between US 1 and Prosperity Farms Road and used extensive dredging to make as much waterfront property as possible, which created the waterfront cul-de-sacs the village is known for. It incorporated in 1956, was named that year's Best Planned Community, and many early houses were built by Arthur Rutenberg. The village-owned North Palm Beach Country Club sits on an island in the Intracoastal, reached by three bridges.
The regional chamber describes old-Florida ranch-style homes alongside large custom estates. The Village counts about 13,000 year-round residents and about 15,000 in winter, and the 2020 Census put the median age at 55.5, with 32.6% of residents 65 or older. Those numbers line up with the work: older ranch homes being cleared for a sale or a renovation, garages full of decades of storage, and canal-side decks and docks worn out by the water.
