A whole house is more than one Weston bulk day

Weston's curbside bulk, collected by Republic Services, comes in January, April, July and October. Each section of the city has one set day in those months. For a single couch that works. For a whole house it does not, because a closing date or a lease start rarely lines up with your section's bulk day.

The City also leaves out a lot of what a full house holds. Bulk does not include electronics or televisions, household hazardous waste, or contractor-generated material. A move-out usually turns up all three: TVs and old computers, cleaning chemicals under the sinks, and leftover tile or trim in the garage.

Selling a Weston home on a deadline

Weston homes are valuable. Census figures put the median owner-occupied home at $695,600, and 73% of homes are owner-occupied. When one goes on the market, it has to be empty and clean for photos, showings and the walk-through, often on a date set by someone else.

Planned communities, gates and big floor plans

Weston is a master-planned city, largely built by Arvida as Indian Trace, with the first homes completed in 1984 in Country Isles and Windmill Ranch. Bonaventure and Weston Hills are other names you hear. Households here average 3.16 people, so a cleanout here often means several bedrooms of closets to sort.

House cleanouts start at $1,000. That covers a typical home with normal contents, many loads and a full crew for the day. Dany sets the final number from photos of every room or a quick walk-through, and it includes labor, loading, hauling and disposal.

More rooms packed full, heavy pieces like pianos or safes, stairs and long carries raise it. Half-empty rooms and items already pulled into the garage lower it. Because the job is $1,000 or more, Dany asks for a 50% deposit to hold the day and tells you with the quote. The rest is paid once you have walked the empty house.

Why the County drop-off rarely fits a full house

Weston residents can take bulky waste, including furniture, appliances, yard waste and electronics, to Broward County's Central Residential Drop-off Center at 5490 Reese Road in Davie, free up to four times a month. It is open Saturdays only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you need a photo ID plus a current utility bill or tax notice with a matching name and address.

That proof can be a problem for an heir or a landlord whose own ID shows a different address. The County also turns away vehicles larger than a 1-ton pickup and open trailers over 8 feet. Four small loads a month will not empty a Weston house. One call to Dany usually will, and Weston is one of the five cities he works most.
